Hustle and bustle, busyness, and constant noise.
This is the world in which we live.
We don’t have time for ourselves, our hobbies, or even adequate rest.
We relegate our hopes and dreams to a vague place we call “someday when I have more time”.
We leave God at the exit door of church on Sunday morning, and our faith defaults to a quick prayer thrown skyward from time to time.
We place our families on pause with the phrases “just a minute” or “after I finish this…” rolling off our tongues without conscious thought.
We live in a state of uninterrupted stimulation, with the constant beeping, dinging, and ringing of our numerous notifications.
We live on-demand lives, accessible to the world from the first minute of our day to the last.
We are overwhelmed, under-rested and out of control.
What if it doesn’t have to be this way?
What if we replaced the busyness with purpose?
What if we chose calm over stress?
What if we trusted God to guide us instead of trying to muscle the details of our lives into place under own strength?
What if we replaced our over stimulation with rest and self care?
What if the tyranny of the urgent gave way to the priorities of our heart?
Imagine the difference…
This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says:
“Only in RETURNING to me
and RESTING in me will you be saved.
In QUIETNESS and TRUST is your strength.
But you would have none of it.”
-Isaiah 30:15 NLT/NIV
